I'd lube them and shoot them as cast, rule of thumb is 1-2 thou over grove diameter. The powder weight looks OK from the data books I have. I'd drop it back a bit more to say 35 gns and work up in half grain increments.

Top velocity doesn't always give top accuracy. My .303"s like 18-1900 FPS.

I am currently trying to get them up to 2400 FPS with good accuracy for 1,000 yrd shooting

Hi

My No1 MkIII is very fond of a 221gr bore riding bullet cast in clip on wheel weight with heat treated to 30BHN.  I shoot it over 41gr of H4350 for just shy of 2000fps which basically duplicated the MkVI load.

The critical aspects of shooting the 'smelly' I have found are:

1) Heavy bullets with bore riding noses.

2) Correct sized bullets.  My 221gr GC bullet .315-.316 out of the mould with the nose at .305.  I size to .314 and seat in a neck expanded to .313 with the nose of the bullet just engaging.

3) I have my action bedded and barrel pressure pointed top and bottom from the barrel band forward.  The barrel is locked tight between the woodwork.  Knox form is floating.

4) Cases are neck sized only with a Lee collet die prior to expanding to .313 and cases are fire formed from new to headspace on the shoulder.  Good case life ensues.

5) Necks are annealed every 5th firing to be sure of consistent neck tension.

Hope this helps.

Cheers from New Zealand

That is a good looking bullet. I like the spiral point, look very aerodynamic.. What is the mold made from, alum or cast iron?

Norm, now your talking. That's a good looking CB. The other picture of the 175gr is reminiscence of the Lyman 311413 which nobody ever seems to get to shoot well. That 215gr cb to fit perfect ought to have land marks lightly engraved on the nose, seated out as far as possible.

Charge the 303 with the standard in CBA Military competition for 30-06 and the Swiss 7.65x55. That is 18grSR4759, 19-21gr AA5744 or IMR4198, 16gr Aliant 2400. These loads are approximated for your 303, but ought to be close. These powders give good velocity, around 1,500-1,600fps for 100yd and 200yd shooting. Of course you can use shotgun powders for reduced loads.

Once you get a respectable load, then try sizing down from .314” or .313” to see which shoots better. Good luck and have fun :D ...................Dan

Shoots like an absolutely house on fire in my No.4 Mk2.  GREAT bullet.  This is 100m/110y.

Far right in this photo.

THANK'S for the reply

NICE PIC'S

I think that's it , I will give  him  call on Mon as soon as  I get the time zone strait  from FLORIDA to AUSTRALIA

I might be going to the range today after all to  burn off some of the jacketed 303 factory rounds that I just bought for the brass and to see if I solved  the a problem with one of my MI Garand's

witch will bring me to another question  and I save it for another thread but you all could start thinking on it ( shooting the MI Garand with cast bullets) or start a new thread

THANK'S again

Jim is great to deal with.  If you ask him nicely we might cut a double cavity with one of each bullet.  Tell him BGO Jeff 'sent' you.

Jeff   I had 40 rounds 174 grn'ers that I had already loaded with 37 grn's of H 335  bullets were size too .311 way to under sized , 6 to 7 in. groups at a 100 yard's  but no leading I think if they were sized right could of got better grouping also I think H 335 is to fast a powder for case life for such a big case,  I had to trim the cases back 1 mm witch in point of view is to much, I can hardly wait to get my new mould, got an email from Jim yesterday he said he was shipping it out that day. I'll save this mould for my Ishapore,Enfield 2 A 308 NATO (7.62x 51) it should size just right.   NORM
