i bought a mod 94 made 1920 in 32 WCF  (maybe 32 spl?) a year or so ago, as a 35-30. i got a few loaded rds with it and started noticing the ejected/fired brass didn't look like the same stuff that went in it after it had been fire formed. went thru some dies boxes etc that came with it and found a hand written note from the 60s stating it is a 35-30 AI chambered by old PO himself. no way to prove it though. contacted dave manson and sent him a few cases and he confirmed they matched a spec sheet he has for a 35-50 AI chamber reamer, but that he has never made the reamer or heard of anyone that has. i loaded a few jacketed bullets for it at 30-30  velocitys and it shoots good. any reccomendations for a cast slug appreciated. looking to plink, hunt hogs and whitetails with it.

This might help you some, but it's for the standard cartridge (not the A.I.).

RCBS 35-200-FN or SAECO #352 (245 grain) worked well in my .35 Herrett and a friend's .35 Remington. A shooter at Windhill in Illinois shot a .358 Winchester in competition and did well with the RCBS Bullet.

JES reboring is famous for his 35-30s and 35-40s used to salvage old bbls. He recently made me a 35 Swiss, 7.5x55 necked up to 35.

Lee makes a 220 gr that works fine in all these.

For cast, the old standards of 10 gr Unique or 15 gr of 4198 that seem to work in all mid capacity centerfires, would be a good start.

I have a standard .35/.30-30, not the AI and shoot mostly plainbased bullets in mine.

Accurate has several designs which are well suited:

 i like the 240 gr.

the AI case has a much shorter neck than the 35-30 so i am a little concerned about using a long cast bullet.

Accurate 36-220H and 36-240H are suited to cartridges having a short neck, such as the .35 Remington or your .35/30-30AI.  36-220H could be ordered adding a .090" GC heel to the base, bringing weight up to about 240 grains and will still fit in the .35 Remington neck and have a cartridge OAL which will feed in the lever-guns.  It would also be stable in a 1:16" twist.

Starting load data for .35 Remington will work fine.  Work up cautiously for best stability and just stay a bit below listed max and you will be fine.  With the 240-grain plainbased bullet you should be able to load 70% of the charge for a 200-210 grain cast bullet with 4895, using a loose 1 grain Dacron fill tucked in the neck and a pea-sized dab of white lithium grease under the bullet.

i appreciate that. is there any load data available with the powders i listed and not using the added filler and lube? not being obstinate here, just want to make it as simple as possible. maybe trailboss?

If you keep velocity down around 1200-1350 fps you don't need the Dacron and grease cookie.

About 9 grains of Bullseye, TiteGroup or TrailBoss should do the trick.
