Hey everyone,

a friend just inherited this rifle and we dont know how it workes or which year.

Anyone knows this rifle?

I couldnt find any info on the net that matched this.

 It is written:

"Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf am Hector Wurtemberg"

and

"System Messnter"

(sorry about the rug in the background)

Thanks

Are you sure you are spelling exactly the system's name?messnter?

The town exact name is Oberndorf am Neckar, the site of an old mauser factory.

Is it written in latin or gothic alphabet?

It is a very interesting piece of history.

About the  “messnter” i may have seen it wrongly a letter or two because it was not easy to read,.

do you think  its “Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf am Neckar Wurtemberg” ?

may be kind of gothic, the lettering

Do you have an idea of what year it is?

The piece is in the style of  ancient the single shot cartridge rifles made from the end of the XIX century to the first world War. Called in the US Schuetzen rifles.

If the words are written in gothic alphabet, they are difficult to read exactly.

Have you an Idea of the caliber?

The US Single shot rifle association might be able to help you.

It is a Stutzen rifle, the level should come down, I suggest it is rusted or oil frozen in place. try a release agent on the front of the trigger guard. A fine German sporting rifle, lovely.

Another German experiment gone awry. What caliber do you think it is and was it more than a museum piece in other words was it a shooter. To most they call the gun a falling block not the same but similar to a Ruger 1 or 3. Regards..
