Got this today and haven't had a chance to look into it deeply !

I think it's 8.15x46R and either a Haenel or Aydt .

Only problem I see with this one is the lack of original sights :(

IF you have any ideas about where I might find the rear sight that should be on this thing please let me know !

Front sight as well although I think I can get something that works there a good bit easier then I can get the rear peep !

6pt-,

I have no idea where to look for sights other than to start with MidwayUSA and Brownell's.  I believe Mike Venturino mentions some sources in some of his books and articles.

6PT, Having just written the above, another possibility that comes to mind is Dixie Gun Works.

RT I had a gentleman come in the shop today who told me about a “schuetzen club” or something in the midwest that might be a good source . I need to google it to try and track it down though .

I cleaned the old gun up today !

Started with the bore (of course) . After about 2 dozen passes with the bore brush saturated in Hoppe's and 10 or 12 patches I looked down the barrel . And it sparkled like new money !

After that I got some really fine steel wool and the Hoppe's a lightly cleaned some surface spots . Then took a rag with Hoppe's and cleaned the entire rifle stock and all . Wiped it dry with another clean rag and waited about an hour . After an hour I put a couple coats of Johnson's Paste Wax on the stock and hand buffed it until it looked decent !

Almost forgot a friend that owns a Martini 8.15x46R brought a loaded round in this afternoon for me to try in the chamber ! Fit perfectly , so then I tried a loaded 32-40 round and it wouldn't quite fit . When my friend got his rifle we had fired some weak 32-40 rounds in that rifle no problem .

Well I've discovered a number of options for period sights , which happens to be the route I would prefer .

I also have what I refer to as a “semi friend” who's willing to make me one . I've already seen something he made for a military rifle that is pretty similar . I have faith that he can reproduce the one on my friends Martini with adaptions to fit my Naneal Aydt .

Look down towards the bottom of the page, there are some sights that lookk simular to the old german sights.  Try E-bay, look under rifle sights or peep sights I have seen some on there before.  Good Luck.

BTW I'll be watin for a range report.

Nice looking single shot. I have a similar 8.15x46R on a Martini action without the Swiss butt late.

I have a bunch of 30-30 brass , so I think I'm gonna borrow my shooting buddies dies and make about 50 cases for this rifle while I'm waiting to get sights or a scope mount .

Try the assra web site. There was some discussion in one of the forums about where one could get the missing sights. Cannot remember which one (CRS) it was in. Beautiful rifle. Frank

I have used some of the Pedersoli  peep sights.

The leveraction sights ,the various cheaper peep sights I did not like.,

while I have been satisfied by the soule midrange sight.

I shoot a 45/70 and a 38-55 at 100 and 200 meters.

I have never seen in use the antique german peeps, the Soule models are not cheap,in my opinion they are worth their money.

Thanks it would be kinda nice to get a front and rear for the old rifle and shoot it some !

I have a buddy with a German Martini schuetzen in 8.15x46R that I worked some loads up for ! He has a nice old rifle . But last week he let it fall out of his safe and busted his rear sight . Now our gunsmith buddy is trying to replicate one for him . Don't think it'll be inexpensive to say the least !

Dale53 , got setup on the ASSRA forum the other day and started a thread about needing the sights !

In about 4 hours one fellow gave the phone number of a retired gentleman in OR or WA that would machine the rear sight for me at a modest fee . I called then gentleman last evening and he was more then happy to help and his price was very reasonable . And on top of that he had an original front sight he said he could make work on my rifle as well !

Thanks for heading me in the right direction :dude:
