Where could I buy a nipple or two for this revolver. I've searched, but don't know what size need. The cap falls off one nipple, stays on the other 5 fine. Thanks; joe b.

Joe this outfit probably has them you just need to know who made the verison of 1858 you have. http://www.vtigunparts.com/store/shopcontent.asp?type=home>http://www.vtigunparts.com/store/shopcontent.asp?type=home

Or measure the diameter of the nipple threads and figure out the threads per inch or metric mm lead and I'd think any supplier that handles muzzle loading pistols/rifles could supply them. 32ideal

If 32Ideal's source doesn't pan out, try Ethan at Track of the Wolf:  http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/807/1>http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/807/1

Went to both and still can't nail this down. The nipple threads dia. = .210", threaded length .190", total length .475. How do I cross these dims to one of these sites? Thanks; joe b.

Nipple thread diameter Being  .210” I am not sure what size it is, to small for 6mm < .236"> I'd think, maybe best thing to do is contact Dixie Gunworks and ask one of their tech. people for help, they should be able to nail it down for you, the below link takes you to the nipple section, 4 pages of them.

Joe my Lyman 1858 came with an extra set. I have owned this pistol since the mid 70s and have had no need to change them. So I think it is unlikely that will ever need to.

Send me your address and if I can find them I will send you one.

I use #11 caps as the instructions from the previous owner. On 5 chambers the cap stays on the nipple through firing, none fall off. On one nipple, the cap can't be pushed on hard enough to keep it on, raise the gun and the cap falls off. I'll try some #10 caps when I can find them. Thanks; joe b.

Back when I was shooting BP revolvers we would pinch the caps a little to get them to stay on if we couldn't get the right size.

Joe if you can't get an 11 on, there is no point in buying 10s as they are smaller.

If it is too large I think I would try to turn it down a little.

Here is a list of sizes. It is in German. Edelstahl= Stainless steel. If you measure the pitch of the threads then it would be easier to determine what size it is. A machinist can help you measure that.Threads are defined by diameter and pitch for instance M6x0.75. M stands for metric of course. If it is not metric my first guess would be that it is Unified Fine. (UNF).

No one pointed out that I forgot to attach the list, but anyway: http://stifters-gunflints.de/shop/index.htm

My Old Army did that with Rem #11's so I bought some Track of The Wolf nipples, which did the same thing. CCI's are a little too small and take 2 whacks to fire. I was told to try #10's. I've yet to do so. I'm curious as to whether you've done anything about it yet or not, and what you found...

72 Coupe sent me a nipple, the threads are too fine. I think the threads are 28 tpi and will check when I can find a 28 tpi screw or nipple. What I found is that I tremble about half a 24” square target at 25 yards W and E, which doesn't affect my accuracy because I can't focus on the sights or the target. Now I remember why I sold my offhand handguns. So I'll sell this nice C&B pistol, and go back to bench shooting scoped Striker, Competitor and sorta-pistol-made-from-M10. Thanks to the helpers; joe b.
