Common shell holder mod to fit Hornaday trimmer

So....those of us with Hornaday trimmers found out/know the have a proprietary shaft size requiring shell holders with a larger hole (Hornaday of course) than other standard shell holders, which are too hard to be drilled.  Today I was wondering how to use a Lee shell holder, and did not want to order a Hornaday.   Duhhhhh....why hot heat it to draw the temper?  Heated the Lee to red with a propane torch, let cool, and drilled it easily.  I'm probably the last guy to figure this out, but there may be one other out there.....undecided

I'm sorta still using the OLD style RCBS with the collet type cartridge holder, got all 4 collects & just about all pilots. I've always thought the new style trimmer- 2 was no better. Just more $$$ for each specialized case holder.

I too have had trouble fitting other brand shell holders to other brands equipment never a Press. But in particular,  my RCBS hand priming tools. Both the OLD single style & the one with the tray. Some LYMAN will fit, some will not. An old PACIFIC(Hornady) for 44WCF will fit both, new HORNADY will not fit either. Neither will any REDDING or Lee.

I worked for a couple of Gun Shop outfits back in the late '80's & well into the 1990's, so I managed to collect the 1st 32 RCBS shellholders. I added the #35 when they started to expand the shell holder line. A specialized shell holder just for 44WCF & 38WCF.

I have had a LYMAN powered case trimmer since they came out 30yrs ago.  I haven't found a case yet that wouldn't fit the universal chuck head, except for Sellior & Bellot(?) 38SPL. I use it most of all. With the LYMAN Case Prep Express set up behind it, I can process cases faster then ever before.

I have also tried the new LYMAN E-Z Trim. It has worked with RCBS & REDDING  Shell Holders & of course LYMAN.  But The Lee fit like crap. It's just the things to keep the hands busy while watching old WESTERNS. Using a battery powered drill makes easy work. I'm thinking about adding that HORNADY dual powered hand "drill" . With 2 heads it will make sitting on my butt watching tv more productive.

Just my thoughts on the whole cast trimmer/prep thing.

Wordy as usual.
