Hello all,

Just recently joined CBA, although I've been reloading and casting off and on since the early seventies while growing up in Tucson, then a career in the Army. I've been living in the Memphis area since 2006, and just recently started to really get back into the swing of things, trying to get to the range as much as I can. I'm really interested in casting/loading for my .45-70s and .30-06s (3 M1s and a Browning B78.) I look forward to learning a lot from you folks, and participating in CBA matches whenever I can.

I love tinkering and doing things with my hands and head. In addition to shooting/reloading/casting, I'm also an avid fly fisherman, homebrewer, and love to smoke meat.

It's great to be here!

Ed

Welcome...trying to shoot cast bullets more accurately will give you LOTS to think about and try. It is currently my only hobby. I also like to drink a beer with good company.

I was once really into racing Fast Electric Model Boats. Here is a picture of one of them I built from Whiplash wood kit.

Jeff,

It's always nice to have Kiwis visit. Depending where you're going, I'm sure you'll like it here, but TN is nowhere as beautiful as your islands. If you're going to be on the west side of the state (in the Memphis area,) give me a shout. If I'm not traveling for work, maybe we can get together? In any event, I hope you enjoy yourself and have safe travels! Ed

Hi Ed

Like you I am a former Field Artilleryman. M-109 155 and  M101A1 105 split trail. I'm also a poor fly fisherman, a mediocre brewer and a pretty good BBQ cook. I've been reloading since 1965 but am just getting into the 45/70 ( an original 1873) Anyway glad to welcome you to the forum. " Fire for Effect"

Beagle6. Thanks for the warm welcome. It's always nice to hear from someone with similar interests and background (makes one feel a little less alone in that regard.) My time was spent initially in warhead support in Europe, then mostly mech heavy. I've seen a few of your posts. Your profile doesn't indicate where you are but if you're anywhere close, I'd love to meet up with you sometime, drink some home brew and tell stories. BTW, how do you like your Trapdoor? Mine is a Uberti carbine repro, and I love it. I also have three Highwalls in .45-70, one of which is a B78. I guess there's something about shooting a big projo downrange that makes redlegs all giddy inside. Again, thanks for the welcome. Ed

welcome Redleged,

Spent several years on an M109 SP 155mm. They didn't shoot cast though

Sorry, just couldn't help myself

Gee, Ed, I called "red-leg" when I want the big shells coming down, but I never knew any of you people ever existed for real. Thought maybe it was just the gods sending down thunder! Ric  31st Combat Engineers (Airborne) Viet Nam

I live in Catskill, New York. Contrary to popular opinion, New York isn't covered with concrete. I have a 100 yard rifle range in my back yard. I have an original 1873 Trapdoor that was made in 1874 according to it's serial number. I've gotten good results with the Lee 405 grain hollow base bullet and 12 grains of Unique. About 4 inch groups at 100 yards. I haven't had much luck with light bullets like collar buttons probably because they are undersize. The groove diameter is 462 and most run about 457-8. The hollow base on the Lee must make up the difference.

I shot in the North - South Skirmish Association for the past 10 years. They have a cannon competition that I think you would find interesting. Check out their website . In the meantime, fire for effect; and remember that Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl.
