match shooting with powder coated bullets

I cut this out of the rules:

4.1   Cast Bullet - A projectile made of lead or lead alloy which has received its basic form by being cast of molten metal in a mold rather than being formed in a die. Except in the Plain Base Bullet class, a gas check having a sidewall height of no more than 0.10" may be attached to the base. Enlarging or reducing a cast bullet by bumping or swaging is permitted

Powder coating a bullet isn't a gas check so I'm wondering how it relates to bullet eligibility.

That is a good question. In a previous post the question of the eligibility of paper patched bullets was brought up. The answer if I read it right was that they are allowed. Does the particular covering or coating determine the elegeability? What about plated bullets?

Coated bullets would be allowed, at least in my opinion. They amount to little more than paper-patching or coating with lube, ie. liquid alox. The key to this is that the bullet be cast and not swagged, in addition to the coating not being a solid metallic substance.

Under the present rules neither paper patching nor powder coating are ruled out. My personal opinion is that it is unlikely that they will be in the future.

The first of the CBA's four principles of our "Nature and Purpose" statement, found on the back of every Fouling Shot, is --  "Stimulating and encouraging experiments in casting and handloading cast bullets that will improve the design, accuracy, and effectiveness of the ammunition and increase the satisfaction and enjoyment of shooters.

Have at it. We have at least one member who intends to compete in this year CBA National Tournament in September with powder coated bullets.

John,   Is it the guy who's been doing the higher velocity shooting with coated bullets?   I'd like to follow his results.

No, The high velocity guy is Dan Lynch of Mountain Molds. Dan talked about sometime entering a CBA match but I haven't heard that he is coming. I think he is still working on the high velocity loads.

Dan has an excellent article in the current Fouling Shot about the need for grooves.

David Pape plans to enter and shoot coated bullets in a 22.  Should be interesting.
