I'm a fairly new member to the site and note the level of activity is quite low compared to the other popular cast bullet site.

Can someone explain that ?

Thanks.

We have higher standards of conduct to begin with.

We are actually a wide web of shooters who know or have at least met several others and shot in matches together. There are very few "typewriter" shooters here, at least from what I can tell.

I noticed that also. We have some of the most knowledgeable and generous people here. I am disappointed that more people don't take advantage of this. I can only guess, that "the other " forum attracts greater traffic from people of more diverse shooting interests. More traffic= more threads= more traffic. A self fulfilling cycle.

I was a serious shooter, reloader and bullet caster with more than 60 years experience when I joined the CBA. The members here really know their stuff and I have learned a lot. Some of the things I've read on other places on the net just leave me shaking my head. I look forward to The Fouling Shot like I used to look forward to The American Rifleman in the late 50's and early 60's.

I think the reason given by GBertolet explains a lot of it.  The eight track tape recorder, the Blue Ray video recorder, and the Mackintosh were all superior to the products that beat them by getting on the market  first and developing a user base. Such a positive feedback loop can be a powerful mechanism. The "rich get richer" isn't just an empty phrase.

Although that may be true, we would like to be able to have more interesting threads going and attract more folks.  It would be especially nice if we could attract more new, or near new, cast bullet shooters and help them get off on the right foot. There is so much BS about what you have to do to get CBs to work well.  Starting interesting threads ourselves is one way to generate more interest. Other suggestions are welcome.

There are a lot of bullet casters in Utah. People here want to know how to do things , but aren't "joiners". That's not a put down. Just my observation after living here for 50+ years. So our memberships are low. Lots of good shooters and casters here.

That is pretty much the same in Idaho, Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington. This is the last of the West to get computer service and they don't care.

Hello to all,

I can't keep this statement to myself. But first, I want to praise the good things about the CBA. I haven't been a member but a little over a year, but I have learned more in a year than I thought would be possible about shooting cast bullets .Now here is the statement that I've got to reveal. I had never heard of the CBA until I saw an auction on the internet for a membership, I read the advertising scripts such as the one by Frank Mitchell and I was hooked. Later I was telling my friends what I had discovered and one guy said "you mean those old fossils are still alive." My reply was,"yes they are and thank God for that."

Keep up the good work,

Mashburn.

I'm a dues paying member here at the CBA and also a member at Boolits, lots of members here are. I enjoy both forums BUT I'm glad the board members here require keeping the subject mater at hand to Shooting, Reloading and casting with some small talk among friends allowed. There are plenty of places on the internet to post your political opinions and spread the Gospel. Not that those are not admirable subjects. Just not what I come to the CBA to hear. Gp

Hi David;

I wasn't an "old fossil" when I first joined  the CBA about 20 years ago, but I suppose that I am now.  I have found more good solid information about making and shooting cast bullets here than I have ever seen in any other forums.  If you really want to get down to what makes a subject tick, ask the oldest practicioner around, and you will usually get the best advice.  Sure there are some beginners who know a lot, but the person who has done it the most is the one to go to to help you solve your problem.  Long Live Geezers!

Long live the Geezers indeed. I've been reloading since 1973 and casting since 1980. Still have a lot to learn.
