I am thinking of signing up for the season off-hand pistol matches ( and maybe the season benchrest pistol) but was wondering about red-dots.

I am assuming that red dot sights (not laser) would be included with the scope class but are they?  Are they allowed?  I know they would not be iron sights but are also not a scope. One of my S&W's has a red dot on it and I like how it shoots.

... just offhand, i think a red dot is similar to a 1-power scope.

If you look through the detailed list of potential Postal matches, there are a least (12) events.

Some of the events have the shooting distance/position determine the allowable sights.

The Timed Fire Handgun has two categories---revolver or semi-auto. These events are shot standing, offhand, at a fairly short distance. This event started out as something of a service pistol event. It was a iron sight only event, with issue sights, out of the box Production, no custom shp guns. There is a time limit for each of two sets of (5) rounds, where reloading between the sets of rounds is required, 4-minutes total time for (10) shots.

Scopes or red dots can be used in selected events but not in the Timed Fire event.

Thank you Tom, I worked with you to get that "service" handgun event started some years back.  I have an old Colt Officers Model Target from my Boston Police collection (www.bpdguns.com) from 1932 that is all original I will use in that.  SO I will use the red dot as a 1x scope, just wanted to be sure.  I printed out the matches and requirements so know which to sign up for.

I just want to make sure to not sign up for too many as I remember you can make yourself run out of time available!

Jeff,

I recognized your name.

I get Postal sign-up fever about this time every year. Then during the summer it gets challenging to fire all of the targets by the deadline. This gets compounded when you enter a Season event, where you have to shoot a target each of 4-months. I dropped one of those events for 2020....but....replaced it with a different one! Funny what getting new gun will make you do.

Even being retired it can be a push to find the time to go to the range. But at least you can pick the day you go and not  be stuck with an organized scheduled event. But you are not always alone at the range for your Postal. Sometimes you get stuck with someone who likes to talk more than they like to shoot.

usually my ranges (I have 2) are empty during the week but you are right often you end up with a talker, even worse they can see how bad I am at shooting, especially off hand.

I can usually blame it on my castings!
