Starting to dip my toes in the PC water.  This is a CBE 309-162 cast in 40/1 alloy with a commercial gas check powder coated.  Group was shot from my Husqvarna .30-30 bolt action single shot at 50m/55y.  Load is 22gr Benchmark that clocks a little over 1700fps with the bullet when traditionally lubed.

Cheers from New Zealand

Good to see you giving it a go Jeff.  That looks like a mix of clear and black coating on your bullet. I've had my best coverage using clear PC and usually add just a dab of color, mostly either blue or green. Makes a good looking bullet.  Gp

The best store bought cast bullets that I have ever used we're Acme .313" 115g. that were powder coated.

It was 107° outside today. I have been powder coating everything because all the lube falls off the bullets and makes a mess if I turn my truck off for any length of time. I've really taken a liking to it. I use Eastwood powder with excellent results.

.... somebody mentioned that we old casters might be  just a bit on the * slow learner * side ...

maybe it might not help to put lipstick on  a pig ...

... but it is starting to look like putting lipstick on a bullet can sometimes be an improvement ...

i am working on a cigar box of 30 carbine groundhog loads ...   got a quart of powdered red lipstick ....;.

... might just soon put some " lipstick " ... on that   " hog " ....cool

...sorry, i pun for fun ...

I'm experimenting with it as well.  So far I do like the clean bore after a shooting session.

I discovered a pair of inexpensive thin scissors works very well for picking the bullets out of the dry powder.  Thin enough to grab in the lube grooves... much better than anything else I tried.

Having never done it, but stuff is on order, what order of operations is best for powder coat, gas check, sizing? Will be trying some .311 195 grns.

Ross  Opinions vary, but here's how I would coat your .311 195gr. bullets. Lee push through size dies work well for this. Make sure that there is NO lube in the size die. Install the checks using a .311 die. Coat the bullets and resize them to .311.   Gp

Thanks GP, I'll use that as my starting point.
