Would someone please send me the formula for a lead removing formula which I think is called Purple Gook?.  I saw it on the forum a couple of weeks ago and now I can't find it. I'm very interested in giving it a try.

Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot Ken. That gave my eyes some serious straining but I read it.

my first choice would be to take gwarden's advice::

""" Bore Tech makes a product called "Eliminator". After trying it I would not use anything else again. Eliminator has no ammonia, Environmental friendly and can be left in the bore over night. Cleans the fouling out without much effort.""""""""

BUT here is where the article is hiding    helps to do a control-+   to make it bigger.

A tight patch and any solvent should get lead out, failing that a patch with abrasive paste will get it out,JB compound is one.I use Boretech Elimator in my jacketed Bullet barrel’s,very good stuff, however I wouldn‘t leave it in my barrels overnight, despite what anyone says.

Mike and Ken,

I have been using Bench rest brand lead remover in my .22 rimfires and big bore hand guns. That's what most of the .22 shooters(benchrest) around here use. I'm just one of those people who are always checking out other possibilities.

Here you go.  Let me know how it works.  I made up a batch but haven't tried it yet.  It looks pretty sitting on my loading bench.  Kind of like those bottles of colored water the drug stores used to have on display back in the 60's.  (That's as far back as I can remember.)

Hello Ken,

No, I don't think I know wayne blackletter. If I do know him I've probably forgotten his name in my stage of old age forgetfulness. I never forget a face but I can't remember a name for five minutes. The part of Oklahoma that I live in is in the mountains. It's a great place to live except week-ends when all the Texans from Dallas & Ft. Worth and beyond  come in to their weekend homes. YUK. I am definitely going to mix up some of the witches brew and I will give you a report

I'm Leary of some gun cleaning products due to some that I have used in the past. For Instance I had traded my brother-in-law out of a first year production 1955 Model 88 Winchester. It needed some tinkering done on it and I was busy at the time and sprayed the action down with a preservative that I won't call by name. A few months later I got around to it and the rotary bolt was completely frozen up. Every moving part in the bolt was also locked. Needless to say I've never used that product again. Also about the same time I had some of it on a barrel action that I was fixing to glass bed. I cleaned it off real good and put release agent on it and it was the only glassing project that stuck on me.

I'm cheap.  You can make Blue Goop out of stuff from the bathroom closet.  The stuff they sell is expensive.  Like I said, I haven't tried it yet.  Guess I could try it on my Jennings 22.

Blue Goop is intended to work quickly, like during a match.

Hello max503,

Cheap and works fast, that sounds like a idea to try. I'm definitely going to give it a try.

Hello again,

I just mixed up some of the Blue Goo a little while ago. I'm anxious to see how well it removes jacket fouling. I think I will try it in a rifle that I'm not very attached to at first in case it makes a smooth bore out of it. I'm very nervous about this experiment. Wish me luck.

thanks Ricin Yakima,

Where did I first get the idea in my feeble mind that this was a lead remover? I knew it was for copper fouling. I've knew it was a supposed copper solvent but my mind short circuited somewhere in the last few weeks that I first asked about this stuff. I hope it works as good as some claim.

I finally got around to mixing some of this stuff up last week but haven't gotten around to using it. It started to turn blue in a few minutes, but took several days to turn a deep blue. Now, I just have to get my nerve up to try it. I have a couple of old rifles that have heavy jacket fouling to try it on. I'll let you know how it goes,
