We live 3/4 of mile from the school and 2 of our 3 children graduated from there. Our long time neighbors daughter was in the class next to the one where most of the shooting took place. One of the girls killed was in my wife's friend's scout troup. We had kids running down the road in front of our property.

Please pray for all of the victims. It is so sad that this can happen anywhere.

It' just another indication of where we are as a society anymore. Which is and has been a steady and continuous  break down of the  social, moral, spiritual  and family values from within. I fear that there is no fix no matter how much knee jerk and "feel good" legislation that is passed.

Laws are made for honest rational people.

I wouldn't bet money on that.

This Has to stop. It's my belief that we've come to the spot where entering a schools doors should be just like entering the courthouse.  Metal detector  between double doors and guards to search anyone that sets off the alarm. Seems to me that the children deserve as much security as a bunch of shyster lawyers. Gp

I am proud of our Santa Fe baseball players, when a group of 6 or so was interviewed by a CNN reporter and goated into saying they would continue the anti-gun movement of the Parkland students, they refused to be drawn in. I am sure they all own firearms or their parents do.

God bless 'em.  There are many good level headed young folk out there, and they don't deserve this crap.

In 1999 congress passed a new law. A law that made it illegal to bring a gun within 500yds of  a public school, college or university. I believe the movement was started by senator john kerry in 1991. The first school shooting accured within a few weeks at columbine high school.

And yes I intentionally typed the above all in lower-case.

If you already lived within the 500yd limit, you were "grandfathered in". The end of my driveway is 112yds from the front Entrance of J.H. Hull Middle School, here in Torrance, CA. I think the 500yd limit was later waived for new homeowners.

I sometimes wonder what I would do if I heard GUNFIRE from the School. I walk with a cane, so I sure couldn't run there in the 10 seconds it would have taken me before I was busted up.

I am not a conspiracy theorist.  In fact I deplore them, but when these shootings keep happening with the timing that they seem to have your have to wonder if they have somehow been orchestrated.  Our Sheriff (Jim Driscoll) came back from a meeting with a number of federal agencies and told our CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) about what the Federal Agencies said that we could expect in the way of terrorism in the coming year:  Low Tech terrorism ie. single shooters in public places, Vehicles used as weapons, Knife wielding terrorists.  With the number of American Teens who were converted and convinced to go to Syria and the rest of the middle East through the internet I have to question just how much influence these people have had on the "School Shooters".  These kids are usually loners, social outcasts, who probably have poor if any relationship with their parents or other family members who could guide and mentor them.  Kids like these are prime targets for "conversion" to other social and or religious groups who pretend to give a damn about them.

I would personally like to really hear on the news what the FBI and other agencies have found out about these shooters.  It would make much more interesting "news" than the controlled and channeled opinion pap that we get.
