SWAGE-O-MATICE GOING BACK INTO ACTION AFTER MANY YEARS

I bought one of the 30 cal. C-H swaging die sets that David Reiss had up for sale. I would have bought both but another fellow beat me to the first one. I had traded my two bullet swaging press off  years ago. I figured I could get out in the shop and rig up some kind of adapter to work with some of my existing presses. Didn't have much luck at first and then I thought of my old SAS press(forerunner to corbin swaging equipment) was setting under the bench. I drug it out and behold it would only take a simple adapter for the nose punch. But guess what, the fellow that I had traded my presses and .357 & .45 dies to,  agreed to let me have all of it back. I've got to drive about 320 miles round trip,  to pick it up but the price was right. He gave it all back to me for free. Now when I locate some of the right length bullet jackets, I'm ready to start squishing lead. I've found lots of jackets on the internet, but none of the shorter half jackets that I am looking for so far. Does anyone know of a good source for these?

I know nothing about swaging but I did watch a YouTube video in the last couple of days that used 40 S&W brass for swaging 45acp bullets.  The finished product looked decent and measured correctly

Hello Ricin,

Thanks for your response. I'll check those suppliers out.

Hello Bill,

Thanks for your comments. I've seen those u-tube videos myself. That is not my type of swaging although I have thought about trying it just to see how it would come out. I am set up to make jackets and bullets for .22 caliber bullets but I haven't made any in several years. I'm wanting to make some  half jacketed bullets like I used to do and also haven't done so since I traded those two presses and dies off.

Thanks again,

Mashburn

No doubt you already know this, but .22 rimfire empty cases can be made into .22 centerfire jackets.  I understand that a 52 grain bullet is effectively what you get with a long or long rifle empty.  I have never tried this, but have read about it.  Apparently this was RCBS's first product.

I'm the other fellow.  Using mine to adjust the nose on .30 cal pistol bullets and to square up the bases.

Read some comments about the nose punches splitting if used on long bullets (no support around the nose punch).

That's OK, I want to see on the longer ones if  the squaring up of the bases increases accuracy.

Mitch.

I have the complete set of .22 swaging tools to make jackets and bullets with about 3 different pointing dies. The are very old the horozonal  press and the dies are SAS which was the forerunner of Corbin swaging tools. I got all of that stuff in a box none of the dies are marked with any info and contained no instructions. I got my Mic's and calipers and started experimenting and with in about 3 hours I could make a bullet.

I have one or two adjustable slug moulds.  Have to look to see what diameters.  Never used them.
