I figured it out. After having a heart attack over the chamber slugging of my 2 30-06's, I decided to do a chamber cast. They were both perfect casts of perfect chambers. Made me feel embarassed. After pondering most of today I figured out how the oversized and extended chamber slugs occurred. When tapping out the slugs, the soft lead expanded as the slug gradually was pushed back down the chamber. Error on my part. Ross

You notice I didn't mention names. I'm glad I figgered it out too, I like my 'smith and besides I think he weighs 400 lbs.

I learn early on with pound casts, if there is any oil, fouling, grease, etc. the pound will not be good. BUT if there isn't some lube, the cast is mis-formed. Glad it worked out.

Glad things ultimately turned out OK. Thanks for posting. Another reminder for all to pay more attention to detail before forming conclusions.  Been there.
