we all know that gas checks work ..
so wouldn't better gas checks work better ?? after all, a nosler ballistic tip is really only a cast bullet with a real long gas check ... i only shoot bare naked castings, believing it heresy to shoot partial-jackets in a cast-bullet match. although come to think of it, i have never shot in a serious cast match either ... but let me continue without thought ....
has anybody tried really really thick walled gas checks ?? i am thinking that for a 30 cal, i could machine out some ( 0.310 - 0.125 ) = 0.093 wall gas checks that would fit on a bullet that had a 0.125 shank on the back . being that i have a bunch of aluminum left over from my working days, that would be my first material. i have a hobby turret lathe that could whip out a handful in a day if someone with an accurate rifle has interest. pm me.
while we are at it, how about a 3/8 long gas check, real thick base ... i have 2 or 3 110 gr molds, might wind up with a front heavy, 3/4 inch long 115 gr, 30 cal, gorilla checked bullet.

no doubt against some match rule, but this is only for purposes of homebrew bullets that shoot well.
and to test the idea that more is better.

or, have any of you obsessive match shooters machined " standard " gas checks, looking for better bases and fits ??

the above comes from me finding some old targets from my serious days that show improvements from lathe turned ( perfect, at least before ignition ) bases, and my squisher dies that probably mostly squared bases .
