All of my 30 caliber moulds are in the 170 to 210 grain weight range. I'd like to find a mold, preferably plain base, in the 100 to 125 range for smaller game.

Hello Rick,
You have forced my hand with your comments about polymer coating being only useful in plinkers and such. I have been setting on two targets that I fired with polymer coated cast bullets in my .17 Mashburn They are 5 shot groups fired at 100 yards on the same day and the first firing attempt with polymer coated bullets in this rifle. They are both sub 1/2 inch groups. I haven't posted them sooner because I'm sure there are members who won't believe it. But they will be posted in the very near future. People better get ready for polymer coating because it is the real thing coming. I spent over a year working on how to coat the perfect bullet before I tried it in a rifle. I fired plenty in revolvers with good results before trying it in rifles.

Now that is an understatement if there ever was one.

David, write it up and get it published. There is a guy in PA who is winning matches with PC bullets with a .22. That is were the push is coming from, small bore.

I appreciate all the input! I started with a lee 309-113-F, like the man said "it's cheap enough, why not". For an iron mold, I got a lyman 311008. While browsing ebay one day, I ran across a pristine RCBS 115 grain Flat Nose.
I have have been playing with all three, still under the illusion that I can find that magic load that will work well in all 9 30-30s in the house and not just in the single shots and bolt action but maybe levers as well

Hello 45 2.1,
I agree with your mold choice 100%. Years ago I had that mold but evidently I loaned it to someone and it didn't find it's way home.

When I first stated reloading as a teenager using the Lee Handloader. I loaded a 100 grain bullet meant for the 30 carbine in my old Model 94 WCF. I think it was a Speer, using 4198 powder If I recall correctly. I shot lots of groundhogs with it.
I've also shot some squirrels with the old 94 using a Seaco/Redding no. 316 150 grain cast gas checked bullet. Using 7 gr. of unique. Fun but unhandy.
Alas it is not legal in Pa. now to use anything but a rimfire for small game.

Came across this thread again.
lee soup can 120 grn as cast in unsized cases
3.0 bullseye pinch Dacron to hold powder against primer.
I get 863 fps out of my 30-30 ss in 1;12 twist.
groups inside one of those bit under 1" sticky dots at 50yrds and holds up good to 300 if conditions are resonable.
75.9 moa holdover from a 50 yard zero or 261 " give or take .
Doesn’t hurt my ears or hip pocket with 2500 rounds per tin of powder and any ‘ol cheap primers available.
‘Fast becoming my favourite fun round.
Now if I still hunted I would have to carry a pocket full of these to fill the pot with.
‘Any of these light loads are well worth the effort to get working for you.

I have been using the Lee .311-93-1R in all of my .30 calibers. It's the 6 cavity mold and really makes bullets fast. I PC and then size to whatever diameter the rifle calls for. In .30-30 I have been loading 4.0 grains of Bullseye. In .308 Win, using the same charge and bullet, my grandson took a turkey at about 50 yards. Pretty much like a .30 diameter .22LR.

I use the Lee TL314-90-SWC on top of 4.5 grains of Trailboss in a Marlin 336 and a Savage 340 bolt gun. I first put this load together as a substitute for 22 lr several years ago when 22 was impossible to get. It is minute of clay pigeon at 25 yards with iron sights, which is all I wanted.

Plastic coating is not "not popular" it is just that a lot of us are target shooters and match shooters. Until that is worked out, it doesn't have a lot of conversation. It does get a lot of attention from the folks shooting autoloaders and plinkers. FWIW

I use this light weight bullet
https://noebulletmolds.com/site/product-category/308-311/311-127-fn-l2/
I dont load 30-30. I do load it in 300/221 with 1/10twist and for 30-06.
I shoot it offhand and its seems pretty accurrate.
I coat my bullets. I know it not popular on this fourm but it works for me.

I use 00 buckshot size to .310 in my 30-30 and 30-06 and 308 Win and lube with Alox mix with lighter fluid works .

I use the Lee 311-100-2R in my .30-30s when I want a really light load. I cast them fairly soft and sometimes dub the nose with a flat top punch for use in tubular magazines, or leave them round for the single shots/rotory magazine rifles or single load them.

I found that the Lee 150 gr bullet works fine in my 788, in 30-30. It's a great mold for around $20. For $20, what the heck, try it.

While I'm sold to Accurate,I must admit that the Lee molds were always good performers for me.Afterall, they are the ones that got me started in the casting game when money was scarce and permitted me to shoot as much as I wanted and for this I'm forever grateful to Mr.Lee.

I have a nice old Marlin 336 30-30 Built in 1948 (first year for 336 I believe) Nothing fancy but the Lee C309-150-F over 26gr. H-335 works very well for me. Gp

At one time, RCBS had a 30-130 grain bullet in their line-up of silhouette molds. But along the way that one was discontinued. A friend had one and I borrowed it to make a pile of them. The nose profile looks a bit like the nose of the 150, 165, 180 and 200 grain silhouette bullets.
I bet Accurate Molds would duplicate it, if it isn't all ready in his catalog.

In my 30-30 I shoot a 115 gr .311 cast bullet over 7.0 gr Unique. About 1200fps, groups pretty good at 50yds. Also likes the 165 gr cast over same charge. Wallacem in Ga

I have been shooting the Lee 113 grain since 1976 in Winchester , Marlin and Henry rifles with a lot of different powders. The most consistent load accuracy wise has been cast of wheelweights, 5 grains Bullseye.no gascheck tumblelube. Some rifles shot best with the bullet unsized.

...ditto on the 3118 for a mouse load ... probably for nostalgia from my 32-20 days.... 75 foot rabbits ...
but lately i have gone lazy and buy 130 gr flat point commercial bullets bulk from badman bullets .. they come about 311 so work ok in 4 or 5 of my 30 cals. with 7 gr Unique. and 30 to 50 yards. i do seat them with greasy fingers as i don't trust the pretty lube they are shipped with.
if you would like to try some send me $5 for postage and i will ship you a handful .
though i do agree it would be a shame to waste that 12 twist on 25 yard plinkers. nothing like bringing a squirrel out of a tree top at 80 yards ...
