I haven't posted anything recently, mostly because I really haven't had much to add though I have been checking in regularly (also have been learning astro-imaging with a CCD camera and that's another tough nut). But now I can say without reservation that I am totally sold on powder coating. I went out this evening with my Henry and shot twenty more rounds of PC bullets after shooting thirty plus through the Big Boy several days ago. I did not clean the rifle between these two sessions. When I cleaned the bore tonight there was no sign of anything except powder fouling! In just a few minutes patches were coming out clean. I thought that was just wrong so I swabbed the bore with Hoppes and took my dogs for a walk. When I got back I ran clean patches thru the bore and they came out mostly clean. Just a very small amount of gray on the patch. I had similar experiences with my Handi rifle in 30-30 and my 22-250. Shot the 22-250 at up to 2550 fps with terrible accuracy but nice patterns. It likes lower velocities with cast. When I was shooting lubed thru it, it liked velocities around 1850 to 1900 fps. Still, it cleaned up real nice after PC.
Anyhow, I do want to thank everyone who has provided input on Powder Coating bullets, it really helped me to understand more fully some of the finer points of PC and encouraged me to do a lot of experimenting. Many of my bullets are so pretty now it seems a shame to shoot them, but even the ugly ones do quite well. just need to work now on dialing them in.
But seriously, I just love this stuff! Thanks all.
